Well, after sunny Elgin we went to Aviemore and did some cycling and walking. Fresh air and midges...I had forgotten how annoying they are! Then on to Killin by Loch Tay. Beautiful part of the world. Had a drive by loch Earn to Crieff and came upon a local market selling lovely local produce. Had a chat to a lovely lady who was spinning her own wool. Just like being in Europe...hmmmm.
Then we went to Alyth in Angus. We had been to Blairgowrie before when we holidayed in Kirkmichael, so decided to go back and see if we still liked it as much. Definitely, yes!
Next stop Ballater. Driving via Braemar was great. You forget how beautiful Scotland is and how remote it can be. The boys liked the low flying jets. Noising up the place and frightening the wildlife if you ask me!
Probably will be heading home next to figure out what to do next as our plans have changed again.

Good to hear about your travels again.....i waas missing hearing how you were all getting on. Perthshire is a beautiful area and I have loads of fond memories of the place. I just love Loch Tay although it is a tad commercial.... When I am jakied or out rowing a boat I often launch into one of my favourite folk songs which is set around loch Tay. It is a lovely song, here are the lyrics...
ReplyDeleteWhen I've done my work of day,
And I row my boat away,
Doon the waters of Loch Tay,
As the evening light is fading
And I look upon Ben Lawers
Where the after glory glows;
And I think on two bright eyes
And the melting mouth below.
She's my beauteous nighean ruadh,
She's my joy and sorrow too;
And although she is untrue,
Well I cannot live without her,
For my heart's a boat in tow,
And I'd give the world to know
Why she means to let me go,
As I sing horee horo.
Nighean ruadh, your lovely hair
Has more glamour I declare
Than all the tresses rare
'tween Killin and Aberfeldy.
Be they lint white, brown or gold,
Be they blacker than the sloe,
They are worth no more to me
Than the melting flake of snow.
Her eyes are like the gleam
O' the sunlight on the stream;
And the songs the fairies sing
Seem like songs she sings at milking.
But my heart is full of woe,
For last night she bade me go
And the tears begin to flow,
As I sing horee, horo.
She's my beauteous nighean ruadh,
She's my joy and sorrow too
And although she is untrue,
Well I cannot live without her.
For my heart's a boat in tow
And I'd give the world to know,
Why she means to let me go
As I sing horee horo.
Always was a sucker for unrequited love lol....I cried at Titanic (allegedly)....I think cos i was sorry for yhe boat!
Keep having fun y'all
Spinky
Hiya Spinky! Glad to see you're still with us. You old romantic. Personally I am with the more cynical camp...
ReplyDeleteBy the time you swear your his,
shivering and sighing,
and he vows his passion is infinite, undying.
Lady, make a note of this,
one of you is lying.
Dorothy Parker.
Or...
Razors pain you, rivers are damp, acids stain you, drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful, nooses give, gas smells awful, you might as well live.
That good old joie de vivre....
Much love pal. L x
Well hello again, on the move again and exploring your own part of the world. So far beautiful and sunny most of the time, Scotland is aways a mixed bag but that is what makes it so interesting, apart from the midgies who love the wet conditions..... I remember the seven sisters and bites in places not to be mentioned. Loch Maree was the worst, beautiful but lots of midges and monster cleggs... oh happy days. Me coming to terms with a new computer... this may take some time. Happy to see your fan club follows, hello Spinky, hope you are well and awaiting my McGongel effort, when I feel brave enough to post it. I dont think Lesley has seen this, so hold your breath... To lesley, Bill and the lovely boys... much love, Annie..... Your here for a good time not a long time.....
ReplyDeleteYou weren't always so cynical about matters of the heart or life in general as I recall missy lol!!.Anyway, I like to reserve my cynicism for the political world and the land of 'Big Oil' in which I spend my days......The rest of my life is just one big romantic, nostalgic, fantasy world....It works for me, well that and red wine!! Have you ever seen a Bollywood movie?? That is what my head looks like on the inside lol lol!!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the adventure continues. I am planning a marine adventure of my own. It will probably be bext year but I am planning a West Coast cruise. I will likely launch the boat at Mallaig, where, you might recall I used to fish from and where I met Fiona. I will sail to the Small Isles and back down Skye's Western side. I will visit all the old places I used to go and I am going to stop at Canna to visit the old Shark fishing station where Gavin Maxwell (Ring of Bright Water)once was. I am also going to visit Camusfearna, where he lived, which is really at Sandaig. His memorial is there and the Otters have a wee memorial too.I know the area from the sea but have never landed there before, I read GM's words and dreamt about an idyllic life on the West Coast lying in my room on the skanky housing estate that I lived in. I loved that whole story then and even now, although I know the truth was less romantic than the reality....Romance, truth, cynicism - A trinity for life?
Keep travelling and bugger it - I say lol!!
Annie, cannot wait for the great unveiling, I am sure it will be great. I am keeping fine but busy getting my boat back in shape. Finally got her launched after 2 yrs of work!! My wee boy and I have had great fun sailing up and down the coast and have had some great seabird/marine mammal spotting days so far. I offered to take Lesley anytime but she is not keen on boats she tells me. You are right about Loch Maree, that area is mental for midges. I once got eaten alive at Badachro....God they were everywhere!!
Take care x
For my pal,I leave you with...Romance!
'Not to love is not to live and not to live is to feel no pain..'
Mucho love back Spinky xxx
Weel you asked for it. This was written for a colleague who was leaving the department (Fife Social Work Service), to go to Lothian. This is the poem I wrote for his leaving do:
ReplyDeleteMy name is Dave, I hear you say,
I've come to visit you to-day,
Your maw says she just cannae cope,
She's had enough there's just nae hope,
You smoke her fags,
you steal and such,
and drink her vodka,
that's too much,
You cannae keep this up and thrive,
What's that you say your only five.
Tae a hearing you huv tae go,
They'll hatch a plan tae help you grow,
A year in care they say will help,
Tae save you frae another skelp.
What's this I see, a Wrangler jacket,
Must have cost them quite a packet,
New trainer's tae, the first I'v had,
I huv tae sae this cares no bad.
I did have an ending for this, but on reflection it was very weak, given the reality of the situation, despite the humour, I'm sure you will know what I mean. My job was very hard but I always believed in the children. Unfortnately it was often too late for them. Take care of yours...... Annie
