Right you two...it aint a chatroom! Only joking. Nice to see a bit of family history and poetry making it on to the blog.
Got one of my own, which has always been a favoutite of mine.
What is this life, if full of care
we have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
and stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass
where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see in broad daylight
streams full of stars like skies at night
No time to turn at beauty's glance
and watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can enrich
that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if full of care
we have no time to stand and stare.

Hope that one hit the spot. Needless to say, lots of standing and staring has been done on this trip.
Euan went on a pony today, and no, we never got along to see the trains. I had no idea you were such an anorak John!

Lesley mon cher,
ReplyDeleteYou know me,never predictable and always full of surprises. Anyway I am not an anorak I just like steam trains lol. So looks like you are still en France eh? When you on the move again? Yip, the blogs been busy, (well Annie and I's chatroom has been) this week.....I really did start to wonder if we were related there for a moment ha ha !! Really liked the WH Davies poem. My wee boy embraces the sentiment of this work...He loves to be in the country or at the sea and just sit and watch the world. Spring has also sprung at Loirston Loch. Lots of wildfowl (the usual spp) busily feeding, courting etc. Buds are out on the tress and the spring flowers etc are to the fore.....It is a nice time to be alive!!!
Annie,
Loved the poem....Having been through a couple episodes of the 'black dog' (Chien noir-lol!) as I call it I kinda like these inspirational works, they cheer me up. I was thinking you must post a Mc Gonagal style effort before the blog ends.....it would be fun
Anyway gotta go and soak in the bath. Getting my boat ready for the summer season and my old bones are feeling it!!
Best wishes and love and stuff to all.
John
